Why we haven't heard from Marlon Brando in a while...
He used to be all you'd read about. It was Marlon Brando this, Marlon Brando that. He was everywhere. There was that two year period where there literally wasn't a single film made that didn't feature Marlon Brando in at least a supporting role. And then suddenly... radio silence. What happened?
Surely we can't be the only ones who noticed the sudden, dramatic dip in Marlon Brando content out there!
Has Marlon Brando been preparing for a new role which sees him take on the persona of a media-shy vagrant, like Joaquin Phoenix did that one time, to great success. Or has Marlon Brando decided to step away from the limelight for some other reason? Perhaps he's opening a world-class pâtisserie, and wants to focus on his baking.
Whatever the case, we were determined to dig up the truth. And after some investigating the answer became obvious.
He's been dead for several years.
That's right. In fact, Marlon Brando expired in July of 2004, which is why he doesn't seem to have been up to much recently.
Well, there you go! It makes sense, if you think about it. Even so, it's always a shame to see a popular entertainer's career take a downturn. Perhaps things will pick up for Marlon Brando - who knows! We can only hope!
While we're on the topic, check out our top 5 all-time favourite Marlons. Are they your's too? If your name also is Marlon, did you make our list?
top 5 all-time marlons
5. marlon james
Kicking off our list it's award-winning author Marlon James! He may not be our all-time favourite Marlon - in fact, he's our fifth, as the list itself should make clear - but he's most definitely our favourite Jamaican novelist. Unless you're counting the late, great Ian Fleming, who was of course a British novelist, but did a great deal of his noveling in Jamaica. Not counting Ian Fleming, though, it's Marlon James all the way!
Marlon is the author of three novels, John Crow's Devil, The Book of Night Women, and A Brief History of Seven Killings, which earned him the 2015 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature, and the 2015 Man Booker Prize for fiction.
Great work Marlon!
4. marlon devonish
Coming in just shy of a Marlon podium-finish, it's Olympic gold-medalist, Marlon Devonish! Before retiring in 2013, this Coventry-born Marlon was one of Britain's most consistent all-time sprinters, dominating the 100 and 200-metre distances, and a record-setting relay runner.
Marlon ran the third leg of the British, gold medal-winning 4 x 100 metre relay at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. That's one fast Marlon! And when he's not snapping up goldies at the Games (Olympic and, to a lesser extent, Commonwealth), Marlon is an avid music lover and amateur DJ.
On the track or behind the decks, this is another first-class Marlon!
3. atlantic blue marlin
This terrific fish takes out third place on our list. We're not sure what we love most about Atlantic Blue Marlin, their elongated bodies, spear-like snouts or long, rigid dorsal fins.
Atlantic Blue Marlin can also rapidly change colour, thanks to their light-reflecting skin cells and iridophores. They've been known to grow up to 5 metres in length and weigh in at over 800 kg, and they're super fast, clocking swim speeds of 80 km/h!
And if that wasn't enough, they're the national fish of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Keep it up, Atlantic Blue Marlin!
2. marlon jackson
Our runner-up for absolute, all-time favourite Marlon is acclaimed American singer, dancer, and Jackson, Marlon Jackson! Probably the best known performer from popular music act the Jackson 5, Marlon choreographed many of group's signature dance routines, including the infamous Funk Shovel.
Following success with the group and an enduring solo career, Marlon moved onto bigger and better things, setting himself up as a little-known real estate agent in southern California.
This Marlon is hot property!
Before we get to our number one spot, and undoubtedly the best-known and best-loved Marlon of all-time, these are a few top-notch Marlons that didn't quite make our list:
- Marlon Jordan (popular American jazz trumpeter)
- Marlon Knauer, a.k.a. "Marlon" (popular german singer)
- Marlon Brando (popular actor)
- Marlon Dingle (popular fictional Marlon)
And as for our number one Marlon... Well, of course, it just had to be:
1. marlon wayans
Who else could it be? Excellent actor, comedian, screenwriter and film producer, Marlon Wayans is our pick for number one Marlon of all-time. With such screen classics as Little Man, Dance Flick and Fifty Shades of Black under his belt, and a star turn in the hit NBC series Marlon, it's hard to pin down exactly what makes this Marlon our favourite.
Oh, that's right. We remember. It's White Chicks. That's what did it.
Hey, nice flat cap and vest, Marlon Wayans. Great to see you out and about.
